Pak Army Jobs: How to Join the Pakistan Army as an Officer or Soldier

Joining the Pakistan Army is a goal for many young Pakistanis. There are different ways to join depending on your education and the role you want. This guide gives an overview of the main entry routes and the selection stages. Exact age limits, qualifications and dates change with each intake, so always confirm details from the official Join Pak Army website and the current advertisement.

Two main routes: officer and soldier

  • Commission (officer): you join as a cadet, train at an academy and become a commissioned officer. Entries include the regular long course after intermediate, graduate courses, and technical or specialist entries for engineers, doctors and other professionals.
  • Soldier and civilian roles: you join as a soldier in various trades (general duty, clerks, technical trades and others), or apply for civilian posts in army departments.

Common selection stages for commission

  1. Online registration on the official website during the announced dates.
  2. Initial tests at a selection centre: intelligence test and academic test.
  3. Initial medical and physical tests.
  4. Interview at the selection centre.
  5. ISSB (Inter Services Selection Board): a multi-day assessment of personality, intelligence, leadership and group tasks.
  6. Final medical and merit.

Preparing for the intelligence test

The intelligence test includes verbal and non-verbal reasoning, such as series, analogies and pattern recognition. Practise with past-paper style books and timed tests. Speed and accuracy both matter.

Preparing for ISSB

  • Be yourself; assessors look for honest, confident and balanced personalities.
  • Improve your general knowledge and current affairs.
  • Practise group discussions and speaking in front of others.
  • Stay physically fit: running, push-ups and sit-ups regularly.
  • Get enough sleep and keep good discipline during the stay.

Physical fitness

Fitness standards apply for both officers and soldiers. Start training at least two to three months before the tests. Focus on running endurance, upper body strength and core strength. Check the latest standards in the official ad.

Documents to keep ready

  • CNIC or B-Form.
  • Educational certificates and result cards.
  • Domicile certificate.
  • Recent photographs.
  • Character certificate where required.

Avoid fake recruitment agents

Army recruitment is merit-based and conducted through official channels. Anyone who promises selection for money is a fraud. Report such people and only use the official website and selection centres. See fake job ads and scams.
