LinkedIn has become one of the main hiring channels for private companies, multinationals and startups in Pakistan. Recruiters search LinkedIn every day for candidates, and many jobs are posted there before anywhere else. A complete, professional profile can bring opportunities to you even when you are not actively applying.
1. Use a professional photo
A clear, well-lit photo of your face with a plain background and simple formal or smart-casual clothes. Profiles with photos receive many more views than profiles without one.
2. Write a clear headline
Your headline appears everywhere on LinkedIn. Instead of “Student” or “Looking for job”, describe what you do and what you offer:
- “Accounts Officer | QuickBooks | Payroll & Tax Records”
- “BS Computer Science graduate | React & Node.js | Open to developer roles”
3. Write an “About” section that tells your story
In four to six short lines, explain your background, key skills, one or two achievements and the kind of role you are looking for. Write in the first person and keep it simple.
4. Fill in experience with achievements
For each role, add two or three bullet points with results, just like in your CV. Include internships, freelance work and major university projects.
5. Add skills and get endorsements
Add 10–15 skills relevant to the jobs you want, with the most important at the top. Ask classmates and colleagues to endorse them.
6. Turn on “Open to Work” correctly
You can choose to show “Open to Work” to all members or only to recruiters. Add the job titles and cities you prefer, and whether you are open to remote work.
7. Customise your profile URL
Change the random URL to something like linkedin.com/in/ali-raza-accounts and add it to your CV.
8. Build a relevant network
Connect with classmates, teachers, colleagues and people working in companies you are interested in. When sending requests to people you do not know, add a short, polite note explaining why you want to connect.
9. Be active, but professional
- Share what you learn: a course certificate, a project, a short lesson from work.
- Comment thoughtfully on posts in your field.
- Avoid political arguments and personal complaints.
10. Apply smartly
Use LinkedIn’s job filters for location, experience level and date posted. Apply early and, where possible, send a short message to the recruiter after applying.
Be careful with “jobs” on LinkedIn that ask for payment or move you to WhatsApp immediately. See how to spot fake job ads.
